Turkish Airlines Cancels Flight After Bomb Scare

(WN): A suspicious note with the words “Bomb to Toronto” has led to an evacuation on a Turkish Airlines plane in Istanbul, Turkey.

The flight was scheduled to travel to Pearson International Airport, but the note was found on the wall in the bathroom prior to take off, halting flight TK-17 from leaving Ataturk International Airport Saturday morning.

The Boeing 777-300ER was already taxiing down the runway, when crew members found the note, which read, “I am coming to you with Toronto bomb.”

The plane then returned to the gate, where all 292 passengers were evacuated and then underwent a second security check. Turkish Airlines subsequently brought in a second aircraft and passengers were able to board the new plane once they’d completed the secondary security check.

Officials say, the plane was taken back to its parking spot and evacuated immediately after that, but there was nothing else on the plane that was found to be suspicious. Also, all passengers were able to pass through the security check successfully without any issues.

Turkish Airlines says another plane has been sent to the airport in order to resume the flight back to Toronto.
